Tradition and Change:
The History of Our Hotel
Tourism at Lake Klopein began to flourish at the end of the 19th century. From the 1950s onwards, St. Kanzian developed into one of Carinthia's leading vacation destinations. It was during this period of optimism that the history of our hotel began. In 1958, Hans Kummer laid the foundation stone for what would become today’s hotel. Together with his wife Eva, he opened the Strandhotel Klopeinersee in June 1961. At the time, the hotel offered rooms with breakfast, and the sanitary facilities were shared and located in the corridor. The birth of their daughters, Andrea (1962) and Nina (1965), marked the start of a continuous phase of renovations. Over the years, the hotel was systematically expanded, modernized, and adapted to meet the evolving needs of its guests. In 1997, the hotel passed to the second generation. Daughter Nina took over the family business, bringing fresh ideas and overseeing numerous updates that infused new energy into the traditional establishment.
A new Chapter since 2025
In 2025, the family tradition entered a new chapter. The hotel reopened as an Aparthotel blending the flexibility of modern apartments with the amenities of a traditional hotel. This transformation ensures that the Aparthotel Klopeinersee continues to offer guests a unique and memorable experience-honoring its history while embracing the future.
